Michigan to offer a 2-year, debt-free manufacturing degree program

Students interested in the manufacturing field will be able to earn a two year, debt-free degree following the launch of a new program in Jackson.

The program is Michigan’s first Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program and was launched through a collaboration of the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and MICHauto, an initiative to grow the Michigan automotive industry.

The degree will give students the skills required for the evolving manufacturing industry, according to the announcement.

“This program is an important part of a collaboration among K-12 education, higher education, and local industry to respond to Jackson’s workforce needs now and into the future,” Bill Rayl, JAMA President, said in the announcement.
Recruitment is currently underway and the program will begin in August. To secure an interview, prospective students should apply before July 16.
The program is considered debt-free because students will work in a paid position three days per week, according to the website. After five semesters, students will earn an associate’s degree.
